Treasure hunt in Gangolly: Two arrested, search is on for others including the sorcerer

 Kundapur: Police have arrested two persons in connection with a treasure hunt of more than a crore in Gangolly. The secret of operation of digging for the hidden treasure under the sand had a twenty member team which was guided by an exorcist.

The police have seized an Omni car, a pickaxe and a cock which was brought for oblation. The arrested has been identified as Arif, resident of Santoshnagar in Hemmadi and Sharif of Kodi. The police are searching for the other accused along with the sorcerer.

News in detail: Sanyasi Balle is a region which lies along with the sea cost in Gangolly. A sorcerer had told a Muslim man from Mangaluru that there is a hidden treasure in the region. A 20 member team was formed to search for the treasure and the operation was going on since a week. The digging operation was conducted after midnight using torch lights. Locals developed suspicion and they informed the matter to the police.

Acting on the information police raided the spot many times but since the treasure hunt team was not operating on those nights the police returned empty handed. But on Wednesday night police raided the spot and succeeded in arresting two persons and seized the items used in the process. The sorcerer and the other members of the team fled from the spot.

The history:  There was a rumour that in 1996 a smuggling gang had hidden gold ornaments by digging a huge pit in this region as there was information about a police raid. Later although the police had searched for the treasure it was not recovered. Afterwards many gangs made vain effort to find the lost treasure. As some of the locals found pieces of gold in the same place, it was almost confirmed that the gold was hidden in the same spot.

However, thieves learnt about the treasure and an operation was going on for one week. The police have found blood marks, salt packet, lemon banana leaf and other things used in the operation. A case has been filed in Gangolly police station.
