Mangaluru: Shankarnarayana Mairpady, the multi faceted man who worked as an Assistant  Superintendent of New Mangaluru port trust but lived Yakshagana as an artist, organizer and mentor and took the traditional art from to the width and breadth of the nation keeping Surathkal as his base.

After taking Yakshagana training from Panambur Venkatraya Aithal, Shankarnarayana created many specialties with his own ability. He took the traditional beauty of Mangaluru to Orissa, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kannur, Nagpura ports and to the other parts of the country.

He also organized many programs like Panambur Sankranthi Utsav, Tenkutittu Havyasi Yakshagana competition, mythological-historical drama competitions; face painting camps, solo acting and many other programs.

He also gave yakshagana training to the children who had hearing problems and made them adopt the art successfully. For his immense work Shankarnarayana has been honoured with Kanaka award given by renowned Vyasa foundation.

The man who has thousand of disciples has completed sixty years.  His disciples, admirers have organized a felicitation ceremony on Monday, June 15 in Panambur.
